A gestational quantification of Lead (Pb) in the maternal blood

Heavy metals are non-essential elements which can induce health hazard in human body. Heavy metal-mediated toxicity refers lowering the energy and damaging the brain, lungs, kidney, liver functions, as well as other organs. Among them, lead (Pb) is found to be the most ubiquitous in nature and also has a negative impact on human body especially on maternal health and fetal development during pregnancy. The current study was aimed to quantify the level of Pb exposure in maternal blood. The blood samples were collected and digested using microwave digestion method to dissolve the Pb content, and then it was atomized by the atomic absorption spectroscopy to detect the amount of Pb.
