Evaluation of High Predictive C-reactive Protein (CRP) in Pregnancy and Its Correlation with Pregnancy-related Complications: A Clinical Observational Study in Different Hospitals in Khulna, Bangladesh

The C-reactive protein (CRP) is produced in the liver, and its concentration rises in response to inflammation. Previous reports show the elevation of CRP levels in the maternal blood during pregnancy. Unfortunately, there is insufficient/no published data in perspective of Bangladesh. Thus, the current study was aimed to assess the status of CRP level in maternal blood during pregnancy in Khulna city. The result of this study shows that 30% of the tested samples are above the acceptable range (≤10 mg/l). A global assessment of the CRP level in maternal blood during pregnancy shows that the maternal population studied in this study holds the position within the normal range. However, the out of range respondents need to seek proper diagnosis to find out the cause of CRP elevation. The result of this study will help to generate awareness of the risks associated with high CRP levels during pregnancy.
