The production of black tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) is one of the most
important traded shrimp species of Bangladesh due to its higher market demand
and price. Shrimp feed and antibiotics have been using to boost up production
and protection of shrimp from diseases. However, the widespread and immense use
of antibiotics in shrimp feed created a serious problem in the form of multi-drug
resistant bacterial pathogens, which inevitably develop resistance to every new
drug that is introduced. In the present study, we isolated and characterized
bacteria from tiger shrimp which were resistant to some commonly used
antibiotics in tiger shrimp cultivation. Samples were collected from 6
different sites of Botiaghata Upazila, Khulna.
