Prevalence of antibiotic resistant bacteria in cultured tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) collected from selected districts of Khulna division.

Despite the problem of antibiotic resistance in infectious bacteria, there is much scarcity of information on the diversity, distribution and origins of resistance genes in cultivated fish and shellfishes. the occurrence of antibiotic resistant bacteria in shrimp farms in Bangladesh has not yet been reported. In the present study, sequence-based approach along with different biochemical tests will be used to identify antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The findings from this study will allow the switch from broad- to narrow-spectrum antibiotics, antibiotics that target very specific pathogens, and very specific courses of treatment instead of the standard 7–10 days.
