The foundation stone of Agrotechnology Discipline was laid by the then Honorable Vice-chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Golam Ali Fakir on 1st week of September 1996 and inaugurated the academic activities through the appointment of the first Head Professor Dr. Mohammad Abdur Rahman (In-charge) in 08 March1996. First teacher appointed in this discipline is Prof. Dr. Md. Monirul Islam in 20th September 1996. Agrotechnology discipline had started its formal functions on September 1996 by admitting 32 students.
Graduates of this discipline have been playing pioneer role in the development of agricultural system and agro-based economy of the country. They are involved in various national and international. Presently about 250 undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D. students are enrolled in this discipline and are taught by learned well qualified and experienced faculties.
Agrotechnology discipline was established for the expansion of higher agricultural education and committed to promote research in various fields of agricultural sciences and to offer extension services. A number of research projects funded by different national and international organizations have been undertaken by the discipline.
It has made a significant progress towards commencing collaborative research programs with some regional, national and international organizations. The main task of the discipline is to tone up the quality and standard of higher agricultural education and to produce first-rate agriculturists, agricultural scientists and researchers for shouldering the responsibilities of agricultural development of the country.
The vision of the discipline is to make this discipline an integrated institution with functional relationships with relevant government as well as non-government organizations and private sector firms enabling the discipline to contribute meaningfully to agricultural development of Bangladesh.
