Research Engagement


Research exercise in the Urban and Rural Planning Discipline at Khulna University are versatile in its nature and extent. Having different background of the faculty members and their heterogeneous specialization and research interest, a wide range of researches are on practice.

 

There are several types of research:

  • Student Research: individual dissertation by bachelor, masters and PhD students with active supervision by faculty members.
  • KU Funded Research: Khulna University Research Cell allows small grants to faculty members for research
  • Ministry funded Research: different ministries offers research grants.
  • Action Research by non-government and private agencies.

 

Major Field of research interest of the faculty members includes: Coastal Planning; Urban Governance; Real Estate; Legal Aspects of Planning; Disaster and Early Earning; Transport Planning; GIS; Rural Planning; Spatial Modelling; Climate Adaptive Planning; Livelihood; Urban Management; Housing; Urban Design. URP discipline publishes the peer reviewed journal ‘Plan Plus’.

 

The discipline has research collaboration with different national and international organizations, donors and universities e.g. Heriot-watt University, Auburn University, Michigan University, AIT, USAID, SNV, UNDP, German Cooperation, RDA and etc. Recently the discipline has signed a MoU with USAID on Geographic Information System (GIS) for future research collaboration in the Feed and future (Ftf) zones of USAID.
