The Institute of Fine Arts, Khulna University was born on the 22 March, 2009 through the incorporation of Khulna Art College in the body of Khulna University. It has the legacy of a century old art education in this sub-continent. In 1904, on the bank of river Bhairab, in a tiny village called Maheshwarpasha, the journey started as ‘Maheshwarpasha School of Arts’. Internationally renowned artist Shashi Bhushan Paul was the founder of this school. It is historically significant that this institution was the very first art school in the then Bengal. Noticeable, the Maheshwarpasha School of Fine Arts emphasized to the Drawing and painting lesson only. Shilpacharya Zinul Abedin, Qumrul Hasan, S.M. Sultan and other many renowned painters visited the school frequently. With the passage of time Shashi Bhushan Paul’s Art School was turned into “Khulna Art College” and now it is the Institute of Fine Arts, Khulna University. From the 2009-2010 session Institute of Fine Arts has started its four year Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honors) program.
